Sadly, I can't find much information online about the history of Bacon's Department store. When was it founded? How large did it get? Someone on another website mentioned Stewart's and Byck's. Where these Louisville based stores? Anyone have memories or photos to share?

Bacon's was the place to acquire Cub/Boy Scout paraphernalia. We usually went to the store at Youngstown Center in Jeff, or go to the one at Bashford Manor if what I needed wasn't there.
The Jeff store closed when the River Falls one opened, and then that one got turned into a Dillards. Sad.

While it's hard for me to have fond memories of department stores, I do recall Bacon's as usually a great place to get very good deals (price and quality) on clothing. It was indeed sad to see them go and have yucky Dillard's come in to replace it.

I remember Stewart's as the place where my grandmother took us for a "fancy" lunch, it was only a block from my grandfather's shoe store on Fourth Street. I can remember getting a gift certificate from there one Xmas when in high school, and going there to spend it, I felt very, very grown up, I'll admit.
Remember Ben Snyder's on Market, where the parking garage at 6th and Market is now located? First place I went shopping "by myself" — my mom worked for the County Clerk's office right next door.
My prom dress came from Bacon's. That was a few moons ago.
The Spaghetti Factory used to be Levy's, which was a department store long, long ago. I saw a great pic somewhere ... I'll have to search for it again.
Remember Ayres and Woolworths? What about A&P? Did you ever collect green stamps? I got some of my first cookware with green stamps!! *sighs*

I remember going to the Sears downtown that is now an LG&E (E.ON) building. I also remember stores like A&P, Ayr-way (now Target), Shillito's, Consolidated, Stewart's and more. I may have even been to Ayres as a kid. Awww... memories.
I never collected green stamps, but my mom probably did, and definitely my grandmother.
Nope! No error, no nothing. Literally. I posted using the [ img ] and [ / img ] function (the button between "list" and "url" and after hitting "submit" ... it just went back to the forum (not the thread) ... as if it had posted, only there was no post.
I'm a bit perplexed because I use these functions at other forums.
