I was looking at CNN.com this morning and listed under latest news I filed an article entitled: " Yard Chickens part of Louisville Life"! It certainly contributes to the image of Louisville being Weird but it certainly doesn't promote the image of a world class city for businesses to relocate to.

I thought that was a very charming piece, and it did a good job of showcasing Old Louisville.
I think this is exactly the kind of thing that should make us proud of living in such a unique city. This is the kind of promotion we need to do a lot more of.

I agree with Steve. Such new ways (that seem to be old!) of looking at how we live, how we live in a city, are signs that Louisville's weirdness is actually SMART weirdness. Folks seeing this around the country are not going to see us as dumb hillbillies, but as a city trying to find healthy ways of being urban and intelligent and healthy. We look GOOD here.

If only the Possibility City campaign worked like this! They could have been producing pieces like this instead of the hokey and other-city-demeaning commercials.
We need to have a series of "Louisville Shorts" that portray real life in the area, and them send them around the country for showing.

I finally saw the clip and thought it was a good, positive piece of PR for the city. It showed a well educated, intelligently speaking group of Louisvillians doing something (urban chicken farming) that is really taking hold — but still considered cutting edge — throughout the country.
If I had a nickel for everytime I see an interview, or watch a reality TV show and some shabbily dressed, double negative spewing twangy hick shows up on camera and I repeat to myself; "don't be from Kentucky, don't be from Kentucky" only to of course have the person end up being from Kentucky, I could probably buy a new TV to replace the one I want to put my fist through every time this happens.

I agree with all of the above posts on how good this is for our image. I don't much care if it make us world class or not but it makes for a great city and one that I love.

Here is something that shows the city in a bad light. I work at a law office on Market Street. During the spring, summer and fall countless tourists walk past my office. I am very close to the bat factory and museum and to convenient parking. Some genius decided to move drug court to Market Street. The people in drug court are the ones who have failed at probation and this is their "last step" before prison with very intense supervision. Many of these people have to check in 3 to 5 days a week in person. Most of them are young thugs. They stand outside on the sidewalk in groups talking loud, cursing, spitting on the sidewalk, leaving cigarette butts on the sidewalk and crack pipes. I have complained to the supervisor but really-what can be done. Tourists have to walk through these groups and when the groups happen to not be there then the sidewalk is littered with cigarette butts and crack pipes and even fast food containers.
