history and [current] issues.
Today's issues become tomorrow's history. Rationale for Louisville History & Issues, your discussion board
When I, Steve Magruder, along with co-founder Bryan S. Bush, founded this discussion board in November 2006, we strongly felt that the Louisville metropolitan area had gone too long without a sufficient online facility for the discussion of local issues as well as our rich local history. Too many important issues were festering without the public having the appropriate degree of opportunities to address them.
That's the only reason we started this board. Not to make any money. Not to seek any political power for ourselves. Not to seek any rewards. We wanted only to get Louisvillians talking! Not to mention all the good people living in outlying suburbs throughout Kentuckiana.
To this day, as the community's use of this board as well as other local blogs is far from the saturation point, we continue to believe in the great need for this facility.
We love Louisville, not just because we were born and raised here, but because it truly is a great city. But even great cities have their drawbacks, and the main drawback we have witnessed about Louisville is that local residents who are interested in civic matters don't take enough advantage of their new various online options for stating their opinions and advancing their positions on the many issues that confront our community. And many others are very apathetic or too busy as well, but we hope that the existence of an increasingly easy-to-use and powerful discussion facility here will get more people involved. We want to see Louisvillians conversing with each other and building new alliances and movements to resolve all our shared challenges in a very enriching, fully democratic environment, both online and "offline".
But there of course lies the rub. Our efforts alone won't accomplish this vision. This board will certainly fail unless you, our fellow citizens throughout the Louisville metro area, take advantage of it. Please, for the sake of our beloved Kentuckiana, USE this discussion board. Talk with your neighbors, build bridges across neighborhoods, resolve complicated issues, make friends, and make this great city an even greater city! Better inform yourself about the Louisville of today through the prism of the city's unbelievably rich history and textured heritage.
A bustling Louisville area with an active, informed citizenry is a place that can't be surpassed as we together move forward through the 21st century and beyond. Hopefully, this discussion board can be a significant part of the vibrant, challenging times to come.
